Dieu du Ciel 2009 Peche Mortel

I've had this bottle for quite a long while now partially because I lost track of it for a year or so in our old apartment. One day, I was moving stuff around and found it mixed in with a bunch of other beer which was a nice surprise. Why did it still take me 2 years to drink it? Because, that's why. Peche Mortel is an imperial stout brewed with coffee. Honestly, the aging conditions for this weren't particularly great so I was shocked when it still tasted pretty good.

Slightly sour coffee nose, basically what you get when you let coffee sit for a while. If you drink coffee, you know exactly what I mean. Body, however, had a nice clean coffee flavor with some chocolate and a bit of nuttiness in the finish. A little bitterness came through as well and kept the sweetness in check. Glad the sour coffee didn't come through in the body. I'm certainly glad this was still good even after cooking a bit in my old apartment's very hot entry way. Lucky me!

Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel

Took my first Monday visit to the Kite & Key and going to the gym after wasn't so bad so it'll do. Was happy to see Dieu du Ciel Peche Mortel, a coffee stout, on draft. Love this beer but never have it since bottles can be a bit expensive in Philly.

Nice smooth coffee nose, not acrid or bitter or sour at all. Really pleasant coffee flavor started things off, followed by hints of a creaminess and some vanilla. I think the latter two flavors were in my head as Peche Mortel is merely brewed with coffee but regardless it was quite tasty. If you're ever in Montreal, make sure you visit their brewpub. It's small yet awesome and totally worth a visit. So much great beer.

A Couple of Beers on a Friday

Last Friday I had a couple of interesting beers but haven't been able to talk about them quite yet.  Between the Three Floyds stuff, catching up on some other posts and Stina's birthday I've just had other things to talk about than these two.  Now's the time though.  I know, you're very excited.  I'm glad.

The first one I opened was a Great Lakes Christmas Ale.  My brother Dan gave me this for Hanukkah and I was excited because I had heard it was quite good.  I hadn't seen it anywhere around me so it was nice to get a few bottles.
