I'd been hearing a lot about this one on the interwebs and finally decided to pick up a bottle when Jo and I were in Raleigh for a wedding. It wasn't cheap but it was way cheaper than buying it here in Philly at least. But, really, that goes without saying if you've ever bought something in the area. Imperial Biscotti Break is an imperial stout brewed with coffee and some other ingredients that I can't remember. I'm so helpful I know.
Sweet molasses and brown sugar nose with some coffee in the back. Body was similar with coffee in the front mixed with molasses and a light roasty bitterness being added. Finished with some warming, but not overpowering, notes of alcohol. If you're sensitive to that flavor, you might pick it up more than I did so keep that in mind. It is a strong beer so not real suprising. Just be aware it's a bit sweet so if that's your kind of thing in a stout, this is totally for you and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Philly Beer Week Day 3: Eulogy, Capone's, and Monk's
Our Sunday was looking to be a pretty busy day as we had three different events we wanted to hit. Well, I wanted to hit. Luckily for me, Jo offered to drive me around from spot to spot. I'm really lucky. We started out with our new tradition of Eulogy's Coffee Beer Brunch. This event is pretty self-explanatory, as it's a brunch with a number of coffee beers on draft. Here are my thoughts from last year's event.
When we arrived, we happened to get a parking spot across the street and then found two seats at the bar. Really convenient. The brunch menu was a little small this year having only two dishes, but the chicken fried steak was pretty tasty so that sort of made up for it. Hopefully next year they have a couple more things available though. We ordered a Ballast Point Victory@Sea, a vanilla coffee porter, first.

Coffee Beer Brunch at Eulogy
It's been three days and I'm finally almost done with the weekend events for Philly Beer Week. Woo! We started Sunday with the 2nd annual Coffee Beer Brunch at Eulogy. The idea behind the coffee beer brunch is sort of self-evident. Eulogy had about two-thirds of their tap list as coffee stouts and they had a bunch of brunch specials. Really good idea in my opinion and Jo and I had a great brunch.
Since we had things to do that day, I wasn't going to be able to try everything so instead I just took some sips of Jo's first beer as well.

Drinks at The Farmer's Cabinet
My friend Chart was in town from Montreal and, while on our way to Varga Bar, I realized that we were walking by The Farmer's Cabinet and since his fiancee liked cocktails and I wanted to check it out anyway, we decided to go there for drinks instead. I'll talk a bit more about the scenery, food and feel of the bar next week after Jo and I go for dinner so let me just say now that it was neat, the candles were nice, and the decorations were very inviting. Nice place.
My first beer was from the new Danish brewery Evil Twin and was randomly named Soft Dookie, a vanilla imperial stout. Not really sure about the name, but the beer was tasty and that's really what matters.
